Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Hoboken, New Jersey, within the New York / New Jersey maritime corridor, Consult Maritime serves shipowners, operators, charterers, insurers, financial institutions, government agencies, and admiralty lawyers across the United States, with international capability. Our people

Ayman Alakkawi

Founder/Director

Ayman is the founder and director of Consult Maritime LLC, he a Chief Marine Engineer and Chartered Marine Engineer (CEng, UK) with over 24 years of international experience across the maritime, offshore oil & gas, and renewable energy sectors.

He is a recognized expert in marine engineering, vessel integrity, regulatory compliance, and accident investigation, having conducted 1000+ vessel inspections and audits worldwide. His experience includes casualty and failure investigations, hull & machinery damage assessments, and LNG/dual‑fuel vessel operations.

Ayman’s career spans shipboard service as a Chief Marine Engineer, class surveyor with Lloyd's Register in New York, senior regulatory and advisory roles with the Liberian Ship Registry, and academic leadership as an Assistant Professor of Marine Engineering at SUNY Maritime College. He has led drydock projects, alternative fuel compliance initiatives, and authored professional training programs for Lloyd’s Maritime Academy.

He is certified in ISM/ISPS/MLC audits, IMCA eCMID inspections, and LNG/Dual Fuel technologies and delivers engineering evaluations, and technical advisory services across commercial vessels, gas carriers, offshore units, cruise vessels, and superyachts.

Ayman is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and a member of IMarEST, IIMS, and ASME.

Our Team

Consult Maritime operates through a core technical team and an established network of senior associates' (marine engineers, surveyors, and auditors) supporting maritime and offshore assignments across the United States and internationally.

Engagements are led or supported by professionals holding Class 1 Certificates of Competency (Master or Chief Engineer), and/or prior experience with classification societies, flag administrations, and USCG, ensuring technical accuracy and regulatory alignment.

Our operations and coordination function manages inspection delivery, client liaison, and technical support, enabling responsive deployment and consistent execution across ports and project locations.

A strong emphasis on professional rigor, quality management, and practical problem‑solving underpins all activities, ensuring that Consult Maritime delivers independent, defensible, and audit‑grade outcomes for owners, insurers, authorities, and legal stakeholders.
